Nainital Zoo

It is the only Zoo in the state of Uttarakhand and is named after Bharat Ratna awardee Pt. Govind Ballabh Pant. Situated at a height of 2100 m it can easily be reached via bus or taxi and is at a short distance of 2 km from Tallital bus station. Beautiful animals such as the Siberian Tiger, Snow leopard and the Himalayan Black bear will make you realise the vastness of the world we live in and that too at a nominal fee of 30 INR for adults. Naina Peak

Naina Peak Nainital that was previously known as China Peak is at the elevation of 2615 meters above the mean sea level. The peak is located at approximately 8500 feet. Naina Peak gives an excellent view of the complete resort city of Nainital named after the Naina Devi. The peak was earlier known as China Peak and has been renamed as Naina Peak after the China War of 1962.

Trek to Naina Peak

Naina Peak is about 4 miles precisely 6 kilometers from Mallital the place where the trek to peak actually starts from. The trek to Naina Peak which is one of the highest peaks of Nainital is really very challenging and it offers a good adventure and exposure to trekking enthusiasts. Naina Peak was earlier known as China Peak because of the easily visible Tibet border. Adding to that the Nanda Devi peak along with splendid view of town and the Great Himalayas add to the most amazing landscape. The snow covered peaks and the amazing feeling of walking in the lap of nature and enjoying the most scenic and splendid beauty is the most unforgettable experience one can ever have while trekking. The trek path also covers variety of vegetation and high soaring trees of deodar and cypresses although meant for pedestrians one can hire horses easily available to avoid the discomfort of walking.

It is suggested to trek in day light only. No hotels and restaurants are available at the top so it is advised to take a personal picnic basket along with while trekking. Do not forget to take your camera equipment along with to capture the amazing views.

Hanuman Garhi

You can end your day with a visit to the Hanuman Garhi temple which is said to have the best sunset view. Established in 1950 this temple is dedicated to Lord Hanuman and an image of Lord Hanuman ripping open his chest to reveal Lord Ram residing in it has been carved in the temple. The magnificent architecture skills employed for this temple makes it a must visit for everyone.

Best Time to Visit Nainital

Nainital offers a great getaway for the summers as the temperature never crosses the 27 deg mark in the month from March to June. You can also enjoy the snow and if you are on your honeymoon visit this place in the winters and your love will blossom. The Dusshera festival is celebrated loudly and is a delight to watch in October.

How to Reach Nainital

Shockingly, the air way is the fastest way to reach Nainital. The Pant Nagar Airport is just 2 hours away but handles very limited flights. There are bus services available from Delhi on a daily basis or you can drive yourself while enjoying the view. The train service is the least preferred among all the people due to the place being located on the hills, but if you are taking a train you must then get down at Kathgodam, the nearest railway station which is a 2 hour drive from the Lake District.
