Mall Road in Nainital

Parallel to the well known Naini lake, which connects the two ends of Nainital, Mallital and Tallital, runs a road across the centre of the town referred to as the Mall Road. During the summer months of April-June, this road attracts the tourists in a big way. You can enjoy your leisurely evening stroll on the Mall Road, with a cool refreshing breeze blowing across the lake on to the road adding to the charm of the Mall.


Mall Road has a number of restaurants and cafes, hotels, shops, department stores, showrooms, travel agencies and banks. The tourists have a vast choice as to what to buy with the made-in-Nainital mark/stamp.

Parking restrictions apply to the Mall Road and only some specific parking is permitted on the designated parking spots within Nainital.

There are time and entry restrictions as well on the Mall Road with cycle rickshaws being prohibited from 6.00 pm to 9.00 pm, LMVs from 6.00 pm to 10.00 pm, and HMVs during the months of May, June and October (8 am to 10.30 am and 2.30 pm to 10.30 pm). During the peak tourist season, only one way route from Tallital to Mallital for LMV is permitted and traffic is strictly prohibited between 6.00 pm to 9:00 pm.

It was during the British colonial rule that the Mall Road was constructed. More recently, it has come to be known as the Govind Ballabh Pant Marg (G.B. Pt. Marg).
