Pangot Bird Sanctuary in NainitalPangot is very beautiful place in Uttarakhand. It lies 15 km from Nainital. Walking into pangot is similar to stepping in a remote Himalayan village. This bird sanctuary has almost 250 species of birds. Jungle Lore Birding Lodge is India's first and foremost birding lodge and has been key to birding success in the region.
The whole drive is through the forest area of Cheena Peak range via snow sight and Kulbary, the major habitats for brilliant birding. One will see pine, rhododendron and oak in Pangot and in its surrounding areas. The streams passing through the areas make it even more attractive place. The district of Nainital covers the tropical, sub tropical alpine zones, temperate and sub alpine. The bhabar & terai belt presents the weather of the plains while the deep valleys with upto elevation of 1000 mts. play host to variety of animals, trees, birds and typical types of hills and plains.
You can see a variety of birds in Pangot bird sanctuary such as Lammergeier, Rufous-bellied Niltava, Blue-winged Minla, Rufous-bellied Woodpecker, Himalayan Griffon, Khalij pheasant, Spotted & Slaty-backed fork tail etc.
You can also see mammals like sambhar, barking deer, yellow throated Himalayan marten, Himalayan goral, leopard, yellow-bellied Himalayan weasel, civets, serow, leopard cat, red fox and wild boar. The well-known Corbett National park is located 80 kilometres away from Pangot. The hill station is visited by a very big number of people all around the year. The lovely and beautiful weather in summers and snowy peaks of mountain in winters attract a huge number of visitors there.
Pangot is a peaceful place which makes it a perfect destination for honeymooners too. It is an amazing place for watching the birds, mountain biking, courageous activities and trekking. The trekking trail starts from Pangot till Naina Peak. It also leads to Corbett National Park. This is a beautiful and peaceful place.
A huge variety of birds such as rufus-bellied woodpecker, blue winged Minla, slaty backed and spotted khalij pheasant, Himalayan griffon, rufus bellied niltava, lammergeyer and a variety of thrushes etc can be located in Pangot bird sanctuary. One can also spot ghoral, leopard, Himalayan Martins that have yellow throat and sambar etc. along the way that leads to the Naina Peak offering a picturesque view of the majestic Garhwal Hills.
